  • Christmas Carol Concert 2014

    The Christmas Carol Concert taking place this evening at the Academy, starting at 7.00pm should finish at approximately 7.45pm - 8.00pm.

  • Food Bank Appeal

    We are collecting food to donate to the local food bank for people who cannot afford food for themselves and their families.  All we are asking for is a donation of 1 food item from each pupil. A list of suggested items is listed below:

    • Milk (UHT or powdered)
    • Sugar (500g)
    • Fruit Juice (carton)
    • Soup
    • Pasta Sauces
    • Tomatoes (tinned)
    • Cereals
    • Rice Pudding (tinned)
    • Tea Bags / Instant Coffee

    On Monday 15th December 2014 Melior will be having 2 special visitors at the Academy: Rob Vickerman (England Rugby Player) Chris Cook (British Olympic Swimmer). They will be delivering inspirational assemblies to Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11 students.

  • Regional Ambassador's Conference

    On Tuesday 2nd December, 2 students were chosen to go to Hull University to the Regional Ambassador’s Conference. The students chosen were A Simpson and C Cowling from Year 9. They were introduced to their role in school to be an advocate for PE and assist / organise their own clubs or competitions. The day was an enjoyable event and the 2 students listened to a motivational speech from Daniel Caines, Worlds youngest 400m champion and then had to plan, prepare and deliver an apprentice style workshop and pi

  • Healthy Lifestyle Award

    Congratulations to L Raspin who was nominated for a Healthy Lifestyle Award from the Get Going scheme. This is because she has done so well with her targets, made lots of changes and developed her confidence immensely!

  • Number Day

    We held a Number Day within the Academy whereby students took part in a treasure hunt around school and a brainteaser at lunchtime to win prizes.  Many students took part from all year groups.

  • Year 9 Immunisations

    Please can parents of students in Year 9 ensure that you return your permission forms to enable your child to receive their DTP and Immunisations at the Academy.

  • GCSE Certificates

    For those ex-students who did not attend Year 12 Presentation Evening last night your GCSE Certificates can be collected from Student Services. Please note the certificates have to be signed for.   If you are unable to collect your certificates in person then you must send in written confirmation for someone else to collect them on your behalf.

  • Anti-Bullying Week 17th - 21st November

    To support Anti-Bullying week Melior are doing the following:

    placing posters around the academy

    asking all Year 7, 8 & 9 students to sign an Anti-Bullying pledge (see below) and to design their own posters

    Year 10 & 11 students are watching the 'Lets Fight it Together' DVD. Discussions will then be held regarding:

    • How can bullying be stopped?
    • What do you think students, parents and schools need to do about it?
    • What works and what doesn't?

    This DVD is also being shown and discussed each morning for all year groups

  • Year 12 Presentation Evening

    Reminder that on Thursday 20th November we will be holding our Year 12 Presentation Evening.  Letters have been issued to all last years' former students inviting them to this event.  During this evening students will awarded with their GCSE Certificates.  It will be the first opportunity for us to celebrate both your individual achivements and your achievements as a cohort.

  • Visit to the Holocaust Centre

    During the first half of the autumn term the Y10 GCSE History groups visited The Holocaust Centre in Newark. The aim of the visit was to help pupils understand a little of what life would have been like for Jewish people living in Germany before and during WW2.

    When we first arrived the group were asked to think about the choices that people make and what could and would persuade you to make a choice that could change history, either on an individual level or as part of a much greater force. We discussed the

  • Non-Uniform Day for Children in Need

    As a result of the students’ fantastic work during Ofsted last week and to support Children in Need, there will be a non uniform day tomorrow (14th November). As usual pupils can wear smart casual non uniform clothes if they pay a ‘fine’ of £1.

  • Recognisation by CDET

    We are delighted to announce that once again Mr Lancaster (Learning Leader of Creative Arts) has been recognised by the Council for Dance Education and Training (CDET) for the second year running. We are pleased to say that Melior is the only secondary school in the area to be awarded this recognition which states that the Performing Arts Education is outstanding and follows the rigorous guidelines set out by the council.
